Newborn Poetry
The newborn poetry below talks about how each baby has the potential to full their dreams. We as parents just need to believe in them and encourage them to follow their dreams and allow them to make their own choices.
Options
Newborn babies have every option,
To do whatever they dream,
Perhaps become President some day?
Or master the balance beam?
Who will they grow into,
As the days and years go by?
The sky is truly the limit,
All they need do is try.
With so much opportunity,
And open road ahead,
It’s hard to imagine the possibilities,
While they sleep all curled up in bed.

Sometimes we as parents like to get too involved in our children's dreams. My son was about 3 years old when we signed him up for soccer. At this point there were no superstars because all of the children just started to learn how to kick the ball let alone grasp the concept of which direction to kick it.
It was then that I saw something that I think will stick with me for life. I saw a parent yell and lets just say "get too emotionally involved" in a 3 year olds soccer game. Now do not get me wrong, when I saw my son run while kicking the ball in the wrong direction I wanted to walk over to him on the field and turn him around in the correct direction, however, I knew that if I did that it would send my son the wrong message.
It would show him that he could not have his own dreams and could not make his own choices. Now I know that in order to be agood parent we must be able to guide kids in the right direction but I think that in order for them to grow up as responsible and respectful individuals they have to make some right and some wrong choices in order to figure out their strengths and weaknesses.
Maybe I am overanalyzing all of this. But I stronly believe that we must teach our children the importance of independence. While still showing them the importance of a strong community that works together.
The newborn poetry above, inspired me to talk to you about this, as it focuses on dreams and choices.
Yours Truly,
Cynthia Cook
